Blue Circle Foods

From quick-cooking burgers and fish-shaped nuggets to frozen fillets fit for a dinner party, Blue Circle is a great solution for families who crave convenience but don’t want to sacrifice nutrition or quality.

To see if Blue Circle lives up to its promises, I tested out the service myself. Wondering if seafood delivery is right for you? Here’s what you need to know.

How much does Blue Circle cost?

Blue Circle customers can purchase one-off boxes filled with à la carte seafood, or sign up for a recurring subscription to save.

Unlike other seafood delivery companies that offer curated subscription boxes, Blue Circle allows you to completely customize your box. This is great if you have picky eaters at home. Plus, it helps reduce food waste in case you end up with something you simply don’t like, or more food than you can handle.

Subscribing to shipments earns you 10% off, and you can choose your delivery cadence, as well as edit and cancel boxes at any time. Shipping is free for orders over $99. Otherwise, it costs $35 flat rate.

The individual product offerings range in price from $9.75 for a 7.5-ounce pack of salmon nuggets to $32.99 for 16 ounces of wild-caught Alaskan sockeye salmon fillets. It’s much more economical to pack your box full of at least $99 worth of seafood goodies and skip the steep shipping charge, assuming your freezer has the capacity.

What’s different about Blue Circle?

Blue Circle is transparent about where its fish comes from. The brand has adopted certain “Feel Good Standards” to differentiate itself from competitors. These include a promise not to use antibiotics, growth hormones, GMOs, or pigments in any products.

The brand is also committed to sustainability, which is important for seafood lovers concerned about the health of our oceans. The products are audited by the Trace Register to meet high standards for product traceability and provides full transparency about its fishing partners in the Maldives, Alaska, and Iceland.

The company is also certified by third-party sustainability auditor Ecocert, and uses eco-friendly packaging and strategic shipping arrangements to minimize environmental impact.

How does Blue Circle seafood taste?

The Blue Circle food all arrives fully frozen. For convenience, many of the products, including the salmon burgers and nuggets (called Happy Fish), can be cooked from frozen. So don’t worry if you forgot to take the fish out of the freezer before heading to work.

The burgers and nuggets are nicely seasoned and tasty. They’re not overloaded with added seasonings and flavorings. In fact, the salmon Happy Fish are made with four ingredients: Atlantic salmon, salt, pepper, and lemon. They taste like, well, salmon.

For more of a traditional seafood dinner, try the whole fish portions, which need to be thawed under refrigeration. Once thawed, they maintain their firm texture well, and have a fresh flavor and nice amount of fat throughout. The vacuum sealing prevents the fish from drying out during shipping.

Bottom line

Feeding a family of any size well-balanced, healthy meals night after night can be a daunting challenge. Fortunately, seafood companies like Blue Circle are making it easier than ever to enjoy nutritious seafood at home without going to the store or ordering in.

Blue Circle is an especially great solution for families with children and picky eaters, as it’s fully customizable and has kid-friendly options that make eating salmon fun at any age.
