Man Jumps From Restaurant To Save Himself From Staffers’ Assault, Dies | Pune News

Pune: A 21-year-old customer executive with a business services firm in Yerawada died of severe injuries after he jumped from the second floor of a commercial building in Wakad in the early hours of Monday to save himself from an attack by the owner and employees of a restaurant following a quarrel.
The victim was first taken to a private hospital in Thergaon and later shifted to Sassoon General Hospital.
He succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Monday evening, the police said. The victim’s friend has filed a complaint with the Wakad police.
“We have arrested five people — the owner of the restaurant, manager, bartender, disc jockey and a bouncer — under sections 143, 147, 148 149 (rioting), 304-A (causing death by negligence), 323, 326 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code,” said sub-inspector Rohit Divate of the Wakad police.
On Sunday night, the complainant and the victim had gone to the restaurant on the Hinjewadi-Wakad Road to attend a private party. The duo had consumed a few drinks at the party, the police said.
“While dancing, around 1.30am on Monday, the complainant got into a heated argument with one of the party attendants over some petty issue. The restaurant employees then forced the quarrelling parties out of the restaurant,” Divate said.
He added that the furious victim returned to the restaurant with the complainant and confronted the owner and the employees for throwing them out. “Things turned violent when the restaurant employees started assaulting the victim and the complainant with chairs. The duo suffered injuries in the assault,” Divate said.
He said the victim ran into the lobby for cover. “In a bid to save himself, the victim jumped from the second floor and suffered severe head injuries. He succumbed to the injuries in the evening,” Divate said.
