‘Slurring’ Audi-driving woman accused of drink driving after midnight trip to McDonald’s drive-thru


A suspected drink driver who stopped for a late night McDonald’s has been arrested in Darlington.

Staff at the fast food restaurant raised the alarm shortly before midnight when they became suspicious of a customer. Durham Constabulary were called to the popular drive-thru restaurant, at Morton Park, on Wednesday night and following a short pursuit a woman was arrested.

Staff reported that the customer was displaying signs of slurred speech, behaved strangely and smelled of alcohol. Road policing officers made their way to the scene and quickly spotted the vehicle on Yarm Road, heading towards McMullen Road.

A woman in her 40s was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and driving under the influence of alcohol. She has been charged and is due to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court next month.

A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: “A suspected drink driver who stopped for a late night McDonalds was arrested in Darlington last night after staff raised the alarm. Officers were called to the popular drive-thru restaurant at Morton Park shortly before midnight after staff became suspicious, reporting the customer was displaying signs of slurred speech, smelling of alcohol and behaving strangely.

“Road policing officers made their way to the scene and spotted the vehicle on Yarm Road heading towards McMullen Road. A short five-minute pursuit commenced and the Audi A3 was pulled over.

“Subsequently, a woman in her 40s was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and driving under the influence of alcohol. She was taken into custody where she was charged with the offences and is due to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on June 20.”
